Illustrated with engraved plates after Richard Westall. Cowper was of one the most popular poets of his day and is particularly remembered for The Task, his highly successful poem about rural ease. Although perhaps less known today, his work remains important for its far-reaching influence on the development of a more natural style in English poetry.
