Folio (17 x 13 inches). Handsome full straight-grain
red morocco with twin olive and twin black labels. Gilt
raised bands with exquisite and very elaborate tooling
to the panels similar to the ones framing the boards,
beautiful centre tools to the panels. Gilt scrolls,
rolls and floral tools to both boards. Gilt to outer
edges. Dentelles, all edges gilt and marbled boards.
Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Neat ownership
inscription on first blank. Fables: nine engraved
plates and fifteen engraved vignettes; Leonora: five
engraved plates including frontispiece, four engraved
vignettes, most by Bartolozzi. Slight loss of the
surface of the leather on rear board. Some foxing to
the plates.
A very attractive copy of those two classics bound
together in a spectacular and very elegant contemporary
binding with numerous exquisite engraved plates and
vignettes.
