8vo (8" tall). Full blue crushed morocco by SANGORSKI & SUTCLIFFE. Very pretty binding with gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooling to the panels, incorporating fine centre tools, gilt dentelles and all edges. With a compliments slip signed by Sutcliffe tipped in.
A handsome Sangorski & Sutcliffe binding, beautifully illustrated with full page engravings by renowned Victorian illustrators Cruikshank and Leech. The Reverend Barham published his hugely popular Ingoldsby Legends under a pseudonym, possibly to avoid the charges of irreverence made against his lively and humorous work.
