INGOLDSBY, Thomas [BARHAM, The Rev.]

The Ingoldsby Legends or Mirth and Marvels. The Carmine Edition. With twenty illustrations on steel by Cruikshank, Leech, and Barham.

THE INGOLDSBY LEGENDS
London: Richard Bentley and Son, 1887. £
8vo (8" tall). Full crushed red morocco. Delightful binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands, 'baronial' centre tools, dentelles and all edges. Gilt crossed swords and jackdaw on the boards. With typed bookplate to reverse of front endpaper.
A handsome binding with exceptional full page steel engravings by renowned Victorian illustrators Cruikshank, Leech, and Barham. The Reverend Barham published his hugely popular Ingoldsby Legends under a pseudonym, possibly to avoid the charges of irreverence made against his lively and humorous work.
