An elaborate Victorian binding, exquisitely illustrated throughout by Daniel Maclise, with an allegorical frontispiece plate, and each page of verse bordered with delicate foliage and ornate figures. Thomas Moore was a musician as well as his better known vocation as a poet, and was made national lyricist of Ireland following the highly successful publication of Irish Melodies (1807-35).
